Getting more Google reviews

A simple routine for building reviews steadily, and what to do about negative ones.

Why review count matters

Reviews influence both where Google ranks you on the map and which business a customer picks from the three shown. Our audit compares your review count with the businesses ranked highest for your category in your city, because that is the comparison customers make.

Ask, at the right moment

Most satisfied customers will leave a review if asked, and almost none will if not. Make asking part of finishing a job:

  • Ask on the day, while the experience is fresh.
  • Send a direct link to your review form by text or email, so it takes one tap.
  • Ask every customer, not only the ones you expect to be positive. Offering rewards for reviews, or asking only happy customers, is against Google's rules.

Reply to every review

Thank people for positive reviews. For negative ones, reply calmly, acknowledge the problem and offer to put it right. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews themselves.

Make it easy to find

Link to your Google reviews from your website and your follow-up messages. Our audit checks whether your homepage points customers to your review profiles.
